Final consultation on Protecting Civilians in Urban Warfare: Towards a political declaration to address the humanitarian harm arising from the use of explosive weapons in populated areas

State representatives, international and civil society organisations met in Geneva on 17 June 2022 under Ireland’s leadership for the final consultation on the political declaration on explosive weapons in populated areas, aimed at strengthening the protection of civilians arising from the use of explosive weapons in towns, cities and other populated areas.

Ireland issued a revised draft political declaration in advance of the consultation which was presented to states and organisations on 17 June 2022. Delegations were invited to express their views on the text, but it was not open for substantive changes. A number of states and organisations welcomed the text, and a number of states indicated their intention to sign it when it at the signing conference in Dublin later in 2022.
